Oil & Diesel

Stage 4 introduces Create Diesel Generators. Oil provides the fuel for industrial-scale operations.

Oil scanner

The oil scanner locates crude oil deposits underground:

Brass casing + Precision mechanism + Steel plates + Clock → Oil scanner

Craft the oil scanner, use it to find crude oil, then build a pumpjack on top of the deposit.

Pumpjack

The pumpjack extracts crude oil from underground deposits. Components:

Pumpjack head Steel plates + brass casings + dried kelp
Pumpjack hole Fluid pipes + brass casing + copper casing
Pumpjack crank Mechanical crafting: brass casings + precision mechanisms + shafts + steel plates

Assembly

Pumpjack Bearing (base)
Pumpjack Hole (drills into the deposit)
Pumpjack Head (extracts crude oil)
Pumpjack Crank (powers the mechanism)

Distillation

Crude oil is distilled into diesel and gasoline:

Heated distillation

100 mB crude oil → 50 diesel + 50 gasoline
(Processing time: 60 ticks)

Superheated distillation

100 mB crude oil → 60 diesel + 40 gasoline
(Processing time: 40 ticks)

Superheating improves throughput

Superheating produces more diesel per cycle but less gasoline. The total fuel output is higher.

Diesel engines

Standard diesel engine

Precision mechanism + Brass casing + Steel plates + Engine piston + Fluid tank → Diesel engine

Large diesel engine

Precision mechanism + Steel plates + Standard diesel engine + Brass casing → Large diesel engine

The large diesel engine produces more power per cycle.

Fuel usage

  • Diesel powers Create Diesel Generators for rotational force
  • Gasoline can be used as an alternative fuel
  • Both are renewable as long as crude oil is available

Oil rig setup

Oil Scanner → Locate crude oil deposit
Build Pumpjack on deposit
Fluid Pipe → Distillation Controller (heated or superheated)
Diesel + Gasoline output
Diesel Engine → Rotational power for factory

Tips

  1. Force-load your oil rig. Pumpjacks run continuously with force-loading.
  2. Superheating requires a lava source. Route lava to the distillation controller via fluid pipes.
  3. Diesel engines provide the most power. Use them for large-scale factories and radar arrays.
  4. Gasoline is a byproduct. Store it or use it for backup generators.
