Oil & Diesel

Stage 4 introduces Create Diesel Generators. Oil provides the fuel for industrial-scale operations.

Oil scanner

The oil scanner locates crude oil deposits underground. To craft the oil scanner, you need:

• 4 brass casings
• 1 precision mechanism
• 4 steel plates
• 1 clock

Craft the oil scanner, use it to find crude oil, then build a pumpjack on top of the deposit.

Pumpjack

The pumpjack extracts crude oil from underground deposits. It has four parts.

Pumpjack bearing

The bearing is the base of the pumpjack. To craft the pumpjack bearing, you need:

• 6 brass casings
• 2 electron tubes
• 2 precision mechanisms
• 1 mechanical bearing

Pumpjack head

The head extracts crude oil from the deposit. To craft the pumpjack head, you need:

• 4 steel plates
• 2 brass casings
• 1 dried kelp

Pumpjack hole

The hole drills into the deposit. To craft the pumpjack hole, you need:

• 4 fluid pipes
• 2 brass casings
• 1 copper casing

Pumpjack crank

The crank powers the mechanism. To craft the pumpjack crank, you need (mechanical crafting):

• 6 brass casings
• 2 precision mechanisms
• 2 shafts
• 4 steel plates

Assembly

Place the parts in this order:

1. Pumpjack bearing (base)
2. Pumpjack hole (drills into the deposit)
3. Pumpjack head (extracts crude oil)
4. Pumpjack crank (powers the mechanism)

Distillation

Crude oil is distilled into diesel and gasoline.

Heated distillation

• Input: 100 mB crude oil
• Output: 50 diesel + 50 gasoline
• Processing time: 60 ticks

Superheated distillation

• Input: 100 mB crude oil
• Output: 60 diesel + 40 gasoline
• Processing time: 40 ticks

Superheating improves throughput

Superheating makes fuel faster and changes the diesel-to-gasoline ratio. It does not increase total fuel output.

Diesel engines

Standard diesel engine

To craft the standard diesel engine, you need:

• 1 precision mechanism
• 2 brass casings
• 2 steel plates
• 1 engine piston
• 1 fluid tank

Large diesel engine

To craft the large diesel engine, you need:

• 1 precision mechanism
• 4 steel plates
• 1 standard diesel engine
• 1 brass casing

The large diesel engine produces more power per cycle.

Fuel usage

• Diesel powers Create Diesel Generators for rotational force
• Gasoline can be used as an alternative fuel
• Both are renewable as long as crude oil is available

Oil rig setup

Follow these steps to set up an oil rig:

1. Use the oil scanner to locate a crude oil deposit
2. Build a pumpjack on top of the deposit
3. Connect fluid pipes from the pumpjack to a distillation controller
4. Heat the distillation controller (heated or superheated)
5. Route diesel output to a diesel engine
6. Connect the diesel engine to your factory

Tips

1. Force-load your oil rig. Pumpjacks run continuously with force-loading.
2. Superheating needs a lava source. Route lava to the distillation controller via fluid pipes.
3. Diesel engines provide the most power. Use them for large-scale factories and radar arrays.
4. Gasoline is a byproduct. Store it or use it for backup generators.
