ComputerCraft

CC:Tweaked adds programmable computers and turtles to the server. Combined with Advanced Peripherals, it provides powerful automation beyond Create's mechanical systems.

Key mods

  • CC:Tweaked — programmable computers, turtles, modems
  • Advanced Peripherals — extended peripherals, integrations
  • CC:BR — rebalances CC:Tweaked recipes to use Create materials

Computers

CC:Tweaked adds three types of computer:

  • Computer — a stationary programmable block. Connect peripherals with wired or wireless modems.
  • Turtle — a mobile computer that can mine, craft, and move. Turtles are useful for automated mining and logistics.
  • Pocket Computer — a portable computer that fits in your inventory.

All computers run Lua. Open the terminal to write and execute programs.

Peripherals

Peripheral blocks provide functions that Lua programs can call. Key peripherals include:

Peripheral Function
Monitor Display text and redstone signals
Speaker Play sounds and notes
Modem (wired) Connect peripherals to computers over cables
Modem (wireless) Connect peripherals wirelessly within range
Redstone I/O Read and write redstone signals
Energy Storage Read Power Grid energy levels

Advanced Peripherals

Advanced Peripherals adds extra peripherals:

Peripheral Function
Analyzer Read block and entity data
Chat Box Send and receive chat messages
Player Detector Disabled on this server
Missile controller Interact with TACZ missiles (where applicable)
Geo Scanner Scan for ores and structures

Turtles

Turtles are mobile computers that can:

  • Mine blocks in front of them
  • Place blocks from their inventory
  • Craft items using a built-in 2x2 crafting grid
  • Move forward, backward, up, and down

Equip turtles with tools (pickaxes, swords) to extend their capabilities. A turtle with a diamond pickaxe can mine any block in the game.

Common turtle programs

  • TurtleExcavate — digs a specified area automatically
  • TurtleTunnel — mines a long tunnel in a straight line
  • TurtleFarm — automates crop farming

Networking

Computers and peripherals communicate through modems:

  1. Place a modem on the computer
  2. Place a modem on the peripheral
  3. Connect the modems with network cable (for wired) or keep them in range (for wireless)
  4. Run peripheral.wrap("side") in Lua to access the peripheral

Wireless modems have a range of 64 blocks at low altitude and 384 blocks at high altitude. Use wired modems for longer distances.

CC:BR integration

CC:BR (Create: CC Better Recipes) rebalances CC:Tweaked recipes to require Create materials like brass, copper, and zinc. This makes ComputerCraft items part of the Create progression rather than available with vanilla materials alone.

Use cases

  • Automated mining — turtles can mine ores automatically
  • Factory monitoring — computers can read Create stress levels and machine states
  • Logistics control — redstone signals can coordinate item transport
  • Communication — chat boxes enable server-wide messaging systems
  • Defence — automated turret control systems

Tips

  1. Start with a computer. It is cheaper than a turtle and easier to set up.
  2. Use wired modems for reliability. Wireless connections can fail if chunks are unloaded.
  3. Stockpile redstone. Computers and peripherals need redstone components.
  4. Learn Lua basics. CC:Tweaked uses Lua 5.2. Online tutorials apply directly.
